Carpentersville fights for its life but fears lawsuits
In recent years, whole neighborhoods of the village of Carpentersville have been taken over by Mexican colonists, many of them illegal. Many of the village’s American residents are simply fleeing the onslaught—but most are digging in and fighting back. Proposals to impose stiff fines for those doing business with illegal aliens, and to adopt English as the village’s official language have been eagerly embraced by the citizens and the village board.
There’s only one fly in the ointment. Other villages and towns who have adopted similar measures have been bombarded with lawsuits, which are typically funded by the ACLU and other organizations with very deep pockets. Farmers Branch, TX, Escondido, CA, and Halzeton, PA have all been victimized by such tactics.
Still, the measures are already showing successes. Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta estimates that as “many as half” of the estimated 10,000 Hispanics who were living in Hazleton in July have left the city because of the city’s new law, which won’t even take effect until legal challenges to it are overcome. Private donors have contributed an estimated $300,000 to cover the city’s legal expenses in defending its ordinance, upon which the Carpentersville proposal is based. Mayor Barletta said the city has paid more than $75,000 in initial fees to defend the ordinance, but that figure doesn’t include the cost for the actual trial. Barletta has said the city might have to pay $2 million to plaintiffs if it loses its case.
The bottom line: freedom has never been cheap, but it will always be priceless! Those wishing to help Mayor Barletta and others like him defend their towns from alien takeover can contribute to Small Town Defenders.
