Carpentersville still waiting for immigration enforcement training–what about Waukegan?

Seven months ago, the Village of Carpentersville filed with Federal authorities for participation in immigration enforcement training under the same “287(g)” program that led to massive Hispanic protests in Waukegan.  When Carpentersville Police Chief David Neumann followed up with the feds by phone, he was told that “nothing would happen this fiscal year.”  In fact, there’s no guarantee that anything will happen next fiscal year, either, according to a recent article in the Lake County News-Sun.

One cannot help but wonder how long Waukegan will have to wait for training of its officers now that the City Council has stood firm against Hispanic activists and has officially stood by its decision to participate in the program.

One also wonders: is this, like withdrawing resources from the Border Patrol, yet another example of Federal backpedaling on immigration enforcement?  We shall see.
