Can “sanctuary cities” be eliminated?

The existence of so-called “sanctuary cities”—cities (such as Chicago!) whose municipal governments have ordered police and other officials not to enforce Federal immigration law, even when they discover a flagrant violation—is a national disgrace. Can this disgusting practice be ended? Yes, if Senator David Vitter (R-LA) has his way.

According to a recent report, Senator Vitter has proposed an amendment that will end Federal funding for all sanctuary cities. In other words, if you can’t force ‘em to comply with the law, at least hit ‘em in the pocketbook!

Senator Vitter deserves our support—even though it’s unlikely that he’ll get any from Illinois’ two current Senators, Richard Durbin and Barack Obama.
