Recent actions of the citizens and city council of the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch, TX, are living proof that you don’t need to be a Washington insider to make a difference.
The town has enacted a measure that will forbid illegal aliens from buying or renting homes. If they do, the penalties will be paid [...] [more...]

Following Chicago’s lead, the Evanston city council is poised to pass a measure that will forbid police and other city officials from inquiring into criminals’ and others’ immigration status, essentially making the city a “sanctuary” for illegals.
Given Evanston’s reputation as an ultra-liberal bastion of “diversity,” this is hardly surprising. Harder to understand is why the [...] [more...]

Despite the mandatory "happy talk" about the wonders of "diversity," Third World immigrants—legal and otherwise—typically bring with them the very things that make their home countries undesirable places to live: poverty, crime, disease, and squalor.
An Indian family living in Oak Forest, Illinois, has brought something particularly unpleasant to the Chicagoland: the custom of enforcing India's cast system by punishing violators with death by fire. [more...]

Not too long ago, immigration was the topic Republicans wanted to avoid. No longer! In the 11th Congressional district, which stretches from Chicago’s south suburbs to Bloomington-Normal, all three Republican candidates are talking tough about illegal immigration. What an improvement! In a welcome reversal of his former stance, in which he criticized Oberweis’ hard line on immigration, former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert has endorsed the Aurora dairyman to succeed him as the Representative of the 14th Congressional District.

But Waukegan didn't back down; and now, the Lake County Sheriff is making a similar move. [more...]

Kind of like John Gotti trying to position himself as a champion of law and order, don't you think?

One of our members submitted an interesting essay on American foreign policy, decrying our government's increasing tendency not only to meddle in the affairs of other nations, but to go to huge expense, in dollars and even lives, to do so. Click on "Permalink" to read it. [more...]

Though hardly a friend of the beloved mascot, U of I Chancellor Richard Herman nonetheless felt compelled to do the right thing: when a group of students and alums wanted to (unofficially) feature Chief Illiniwek on a parade float, the Chancellor refused to forbid it. Now he’s taking heat from media and other elites who value [...] [more...]
