Governor Jim Doyle of Wisconsin is utterly perplexed over a baffling mystery: the "racial disparity," i.e. the preponderance of blacks, in the state's jails. He is so disturbed by this glaring injustice that he created a "Governor's Commission on Reducing Racial Disparities in the Wisconsin Justice System" to get to the bottom of the problem, and solve it. The first of a planned series of public hearings for this purpose was held in Racine on Monday. The results provide a graphic illustration of the absurdities to which some will resort in order to avoid "inconvenient" truths. Read this report and laugh, cry, or just shake your head. [more...]

According to allegations in Cook County circuit court, a terrible racist incident has taken place. Was someone hurt or killed because they were black? Were they denied a job, or a promotion, or an apartment? Or did they have to endure the horror of an "insensitive" remark? Nope, none of the above. The city of Waukegan (county seat of Lake County, Illinois), once largely white and working class, has been inundated with Mexicans, legal and illegal, and is now about half Hispanic. Unsurprisingly, crime has soared. In an effort to rid the city of its worst elements, the City Council voted 7-2 Monday night to authorize Police Chief William Biang to apply to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for the power to enforce federal immigration laws.
