Among Chicago's many claims to fame, being home to Jesse Jackson‘s Rainbow/PUSH Coalition has long been at the top of the list for black activists. If one disregards Louis Farrakhan's Black Muslims, Jesse's organization has pretty much been the only game in town. But like a Target with a Wal-Mart under construction across the street, he's about to get competition—and from no less a luminary than the legendary Al Sharpton.

Seven months ago, the Village of Carpentersville filed with Federal authorities for participation in immigration enforcement training under the same "287(g)" program that has caused such uproar in Waukegan. When Carpentersville Police Chief David Neumann followed up with the feds by phone, he was told that "nothing would happen this fiscal year." In fact, there's no guarantee that anything will happen next fiscal year, either, according to a recent article in the Lake County News-Sun. [more...]

Governor Jim Doyle of Wisconsin is utterly perplexed over a baffling mystery: the "racial disparity," i.e. the preponderance of blacks, in the state's jails. He is so disturbed by this glaring injustice that he created a "Governor's Commission on Reducing Racial Disparities in the Wisconsin Justice System" to get to the bottom of the problem, and solve it. The first of a planned series of public hearings for this purpose was held in Racine on Monday. The results provide a graphic illustration of the absurdities to which some will resort in order to avoid "inconvenient" truths. Read this report and laugh, cry, or just shake your head. [more...]
