Noted Scholar and Writer Warns of Dangers of Islamic Immigration
At the November meeting of CFAR, Dr. Serge Trifkovic, author of The Sword of the Prophet: A Politically
Incorrect History of Islam, and Foreign Affairs Editor of Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture, painted a chilling picture of our country's future.
The combination of Americans' blindness to the true nature of Islam, and the government's tacit open borders policy, is creating a tragedy waiting to happen, according to Dr. Trifkovic.
American elites, Dr. Trifkovic stated, tend to "interpret the world by 'Americanizing' reality. All religions are supposedly peaceful and tolerant, and Islam is a religion, ergo it is also peaceful and tolerant."
This logical fallacy--which has become orthodoxy among U.S. policymakers--has led to dangerous distortions of reality.
For example, politicians feel most comfortable describing our armed response to the 9/11 attacks as a "war on terror."
This term obscures the reality of who our enemies are. "Terror" is not an enemy that can be defeated; rather, it
is one technique among many being employed by our enemies. But naming the enemy--radical Islam--would go against
the orthodoxy that all religions are benevolent and peaceful--and against political correctness, which dictates that no
group can be "othered," and that no culture can be criticized with the exception of our own.
We therefore pretend that terrorism is a tiny, inexplicable aberration within Islam. Nothing
could be further from the truth. Jihad, or holy war, is an integral part of the Islamic
worldview, as is the willingness to attack non-Islamic "infidels." "Terrorism,"
or surprise attacks against defenseless civilians as a means of cowing the enemy, has always been a favorite
method of waging war among those who consider themselves underdogs, and who have no humanitarian
scruples. Radical Islam fits both of these conditions; thus, it should be no surprise that terrorism is
a primary weapon in its arsenal.
This fact alone would make Islamic radicals a dangerous enemy. The threat is exacerbated by Americans' eagerness to admit aliens into our country without questioning the new entrants' motives. Asking such questions, like looking too closely at the unsavory aspects of Islam, is considered politically incorrect, and draws the sharpest criticism not from the Islamic world, but from American liberals. Small wonder that Islamic terrorists exploit a chink in our armor that we have placed there ourselves.
The only way to counter the growing threat, Dr. Trifkovic declared, is a fundamental change in our immigration policy, both in general, and specifically in how it relates to the radical Islamic threat. Among other proposals, Dr. Trifkovic recommends
- seeking zero porosity of our nations borders
-
discarding the irrational ban on "profiling," i.e. on watching some aliens more closely than others based on logical precedents for likelihood of commission of crimes
-
banning Islamic activists from entry into the country on political, rather than religious grounds
and
-
treating Islamic activism as grounds for deportation of any alien, and for revocation of acquired U.S. citizenship, on grounds of national security.
Though these measures may sound "extreme" by current standards, they have many precedents in our history. At various times, we have excluded Communists, anarchists, Nazis, and others. Islam is indeed a religion, but it is also a political ideology--one that often motivates its followers to commit acts of violence against peace-loving societies like ours.
Our commentary:
Dr. Trifkovic is right on the money.
Figuring out that the 9/11 attackers weren't the only Islamic "immigrants" who have come
here for illicit purposes isn't rocket science. But as long as too many Americans--following the media elites--value political correctness, and the illusion that everyone on our planet is our friend, over their own safety, and that of their loved ones, the danger will increase. We hope and pray that it won't take another tragedy to bring our country to its senses.
